The Story we read says that this ride was commisioned first in 1980 being called something piratey like Jolly Roger, and was housed in Fantasy World (X sector to you purists).
Extensive refurbishment and design in 1996 saw the ride re-themed and installed in Forbidden Valley in 1997 where it enhanced the contrasting experiences available on Nemesis and Ripsaw.
