The Machine Gun Shot
This shot was made famous by Dennis Taylor, and is a great trick both visually and technically. It can be as easy or as difficult as you like, depending on how many balls are used.
The shot is usually played with a white and a line of reds. The idea is to hit the white slowly towards the pocket, and then to quickly fire all the reds one by one into the same pocket before the white gets there. This may sound easy and it is with only one or two reds, but just try it with five or more and the difficulty is apparent. The keys to getting this shot are:

  • hitting the white so gently that it only just gets to the pocket,
  • moving quickly and smoothly along the line of reds
  • hitting each red with the same hard force (otherwise they collide and you look silly!).
