For 4 Persons You Need:
1 onion, chopped 1 crushed garlic
2 tablespoons oil
1lb (½ kilo) lean minced beef
1 small green pepper seeded
1 x15oz (375g) tin plum tomatoes
1 pint (½ litre) water
1 bay leaf
½ teaspoon chilli powder
pinch of dried basil
salt & pepper
1 x 12oz (300g) tin red kidney beans (drained)

What you do is:

  • Fry the onion and garlic until soft.
  • Add the beef and green pepper and fry untilthe meat is nicely browned.
  • Add all the remaining ingredients (except the kidney beans) and bring to the boil.
  • Simmer gently uncovered for thirty minutes or until the mixture is quite thick.
  • Stir in the beans, cover and simmer for a further 30 minutes.
  • Serve on a bed of plain boiled Basmati rice
