Tucana was created in the 16th Century.
Tucana contains 3 objects of interest. The first is the Small Magellanic Cloud. This is the second closest galaxy to us in the Local Group after the Large Magellanic cloud. It has an irregular galaxy shape, probably because it does not have enough mass in the centre to create a spiral shape. It lies about 169000 thousand light years away. It gives a splendid view in large telescopes and long exposure photography.
The next important object is NGC 104, one of the best examples of a globular cluster in the sky. A 4 inch or large telescope resolves the outer stars. The centre is very tightly packed and so requires a very large telescope to resolve.
The last object is another globular cluster NGC 362 which is not as large as it neighbour. It requires large telescopes of 10 inches or more to resolve any stars.
