Sculptor The Sculptor
Constellation Index

This constellation was originally introduced by Nicolas-Louis Lacaille in the 18th Century.

The main feature of Sculptor are the numerous galaxies that can be found spread about.

The first is NGC 253 which can be seen with binoculars. It is viewed almost edge on and is a reasonable size. With large telescopes it begins to show detail in the spiral.

Next is NGC 55, another edge on spiral galaxy that can be seen with binoculars, but is probably best viewed with a largish 6 inch or more telescope.

There are other galaxies to be found but require substantial equipment for the best results.
