Hercules was half man half god, son of Zeus. Unfortunately for Hercules, Zeus' wife Hera was jealous by the fact Zeus went to a mortal woman, and so hated their offspring with all the might of a Goddess. Hercules had to be wary, for Hera tried many times to destroy him.
There are no really bright stars in Hercules but you should still be able to locate it reasonably easily.
The main feature is the globular cluster M13. With the naked eye, it is just a blurred star, however with a 6 inch telescope it offers probably the finest globular cluster view in the Northern Hemisphere. When you see this object you are looking at more than 250000 stars and some 23000 years in the past.
You can find another fine globular cluster M92 to the north of Hercules, but you need a large telescope to resolve it into stars.
Near the right knee beta Herculis, you can find a blue-green Planetary Nebula NGC 6210 at 9th magnitude and 4000 light years away. A 4 inch telescope should offer the Nebula's ellipse shape.
