Gemini The Twins
Constellation Index

This constellation represents the twins Castor and Pollus, the children of Leda, Zeus and Tyndareus.

The two main stars apha(Castor) and beta(Pollux), have been used by navigators for centuries as they lie exactly 4.5 degrees apart. By using this measurement you can work out other distances and thus where you are on the planet.

Castor is a complex star system. With a small telescope you can split Castor into a double, but with a very large telescope you can split the doubles futher until you have found 6 members in total.

One of the most interesting of all planetary nebulae acn be found in Gemini. Called the Eskimo Nebula NGC 2392, it resembles an Eskimo's face surrounded by a fur hood. At 8th magnitude, you should be able to see this blue green nebula in a 6 inch telescope.

To the far right of Gemini, just overlaying the Milky Way, you should be able to find two open clusters, M35 and NGC2148. M35 is the brightest of the two.
