Seen to the Greeks as the River Po. According to legend, Phaethon, son of the God Helios, drove his fathers Sun chariot, and while doing so set the World alight. Phaethon did not realise what he had done, and so Jupiter had to stop Phaethon by a lighting bolt. Phaethon then fell from the chariot into the River Po.
Even though Eridanus is the 6th largest constellation, it is incredibly baronof remarkable objects.
To the upper are of Eridanus you should, with patience and a 6-10 inch telescope, be able to find the blue Planetary Nebula NGC 1535, and the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1300.
