Cepheus The King
Constellation Index

Cepheus was King of Ancient Ethiopia and Husband to Cassiopeia. See Andromeda for the full story.

Cepheus' stars can be difficult to find for the first time, but once you have the bearing with regards to its famous surrounding constellations, Cassiopeia and Ursa Minor it should be easy to keep track of.

There is not a lot going on in Cepheus with few objects of interest, except for delta cephei and a couple of other variables. Delta Cephei is called a Cephied variable which all other stars of this nature were named after. A Cephied is a type of variable with a period from a few days to a few weeks and are predictable in habits. The time that the star takes to vary from maximum to minimum is indicative of the stars true luminosity. The longer the period, the brighter the star.
