This constellation is situated just over the Milky Way in the Southern hemisphere. Because of this it is a striking constellation to see. However it is so low that the U.K. can never see it.
The main star in this constellation is Canopus, the 2nd brightest star in the sky and 74 light years away.
Carina contains many lovely views the most famous of which is the Eta Carina Nebula NGC 3372. However long exposure photography is a must to see its beauty.
NGC 3532 is best open cluster visible in Carina just to the left of the Eta Carina Nebula, with aproximately 150 stars, visible at a low magnification in a telescope.
