Bootes was the son of Demeter. He is said to have invented the plough, and so was rewarded, by the gods, with a place in the sky.

A prominent constellation that can be found be following the handle of the plough (also known as the Big Dipper, Ursa Major, the Great Bear).

The main star in this constellation is Arcturus, the 4th brightest star in the sky.
